Carolin Schelkle is a German Industrial Designer and Material-Researcher. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Product- and Communication Design from the Free University of Bolzano↗ and a Master of Product Design from écal↗ (Ecole cantonale d'art de Lausanne).

Her work is led by exploring the life of products and raw materials and driven by curiosity, field studies and cross-disciplinary research. The investigations cover a broad range of typologies, including materials, processes, products, spaces and exhibitions, materialized through extensive experimenting, sampling and prototyping. The research results either in the record of a process itself or in a commercial product, encouraging a deeper understanding of the materials and products that surround us.

Hydro Exhibition

Hydro is a leading industrial company, manufacturing strong, light, durable and climate-efficient aluminium. Over the years, the company has increasingly focused on the sustainability of its products in terms of production and energy, as well as recyclability. In this project, an exhibition was curated for the Greener Manufacturing Show in Cologne, highlighting Hydro's new, sustainable range of products. These products include two types of low-carbon aluminium called CIRCAL and Hydro REDUXA as well as the Hydro Eco-Design concept, focussing on sustainable production from the very start.

The final exhibition is showcasing the different aspects of sustainability and recycability of the products in a clear and graphical way, while playing with different finishings of aluminium and raw materials.

The materiality of the exhibition is closely linked to the product it wants to highlight: sustainable aluminium. The tables are constructed from aluminium tubes, which are a waste product from production. Their form itself is a cycle, guiding the visitor through the story of the products – highlighting even more the fluid and closed-loop production. Additionally, a semi-transparent curtain in a curved shape expands from the ceiling, creating a mystical and welcoming atmosphere. It draws you right into the exhibition while referencing the origin of the energy used for aluminium production: water.
