Woven Wind
This project explores the ancient material flax and the craft of weaving associated with it, reinterpreting it in a new way. Besides the environmental benefits of flax, its long history is particularly astonishing. Guided by this tradition, Herman Kühebacher is still practising weaving with local materials as the last hand-weaver in South Tyrol. Through cooperation with him, a close connection between the material linen and the weaving technique is created. The focus of the project lies on the material, qualitative handicrafts and locality in South Tyrol to create new opportunities in the small craft sector. The result is the development of two products, a room divider and a luggage rack, both relying on the same materials and techniques while illustrating different properties and aesthetics of the flay fibre. The extensive research and field studies are documented in a book.
